Overview

The Ascaso Dream PID Open Box offers a double dose of style and technology sure to send sparks of joy through everyone in your household! Analog may have been the name of the game for the original Dream, but the PID is a smash cut combination of classic and contemporary in the same sleek casing. Internally, not much is left unchanged, including a switch to a classic 58mm portafilter size, the addition of an adjustable over pressure valve, thermoblock insulation, an analog pressure gauge, and an articulated no-burn steam wand. The Open Box Dream's "PID" (aka the Proportional Integral Derivative) also packs in powerful programming like temperature and offset control, pre-infusion, power saving modes and single or double shot programming. The Open Box Dream PID glitzes up its design as well with water reservoir spotlights and water-resistant boxwood furniture at the steam knob and portafilter.

Good machine, just not for me

Great looking machine with good performance and really great steam. In the end I returned it, but only because it wasn't the right fit for my primary coffee habit (americano).Pros: - Solid stainless steel construction and the wood accents look great.- Really great steam, and it only takes 60s to get up to steaming temperature.- Quick heat up time from cold. It's ready to go in 2 mins, but full heat up time of the group takes about 10 min- Makes a great espresso and has good temp control (no temp surfing needed).Cons:- Small water tank and an equally small (and spill prone) drip tray.- Very little clearance, I could not fit my scale and a shot glass under the portafilter.- Hot water is not very hot (~150 F) with the PID set to 205. I ended up having to boil the water for my americano on the stove.- Switching between steam and brewing gets annoying.
